The vogue towards smaller computing solutions of late shouldn’t be a surprise. Since the second half of 2005, during which notebook sales finally surpassed those of desktops, companies have truly become infatuated with the higher profit margins of these smaller machines. The tremendous push to ride the ASUS Eee PC wave is apparent just by looking at the list below. Along with attempting to capitalize on diminutive systems requiring integrated solutions, the battle for the discrete market is set to eventually heat up with Intel’s own entrance into the market.
Perhaps this is the two pronged war that got NVIDIA CEO and co-founder Jen-Hsun Huang so riled up today. His promise to “open a can of whoop ass” on Intel in a financial analyst meeting wasn’t just for show - it’s a promise to investors that NVIDIA is willing fight for legitimacy in a future of CPU + GPU hybrid solutions.
In essence, Huang belittled Intel for their stance on CPU overriding GPU importance and the relative lackluster nature of their current IGP (Integrated Graphics Processor) such as the GMA 3100. NVIDIA is in a dangerous position where it can potentially get shut out of the market. The AMD/ATI merger leaves NVIDIA to fend for itself alone when Intel finally ships Larrabee and trickles the technology down its respective IGP line. However, that may not be a bad thing…

Those are some exotic RAM heatsinks, pi and cool looking “xtreme” water cooling. Its a good thing they made that flash drive water resistant, I like to go swimming with my portable usb storage devices (lol).
Interesting that Ultra is sueing over modular psu’s though. Makes me wonder if I could patent the ability to put my computer on my desk and sell others for doing it too (sarcasm).
