Would you believe the Q9450 has double the cache of the Q9300 for only $50 more?
Via Fudzilla: “We told you a bit about the upcoming Q9300 CPU here and now it’s time to unveil the two remaining Core 2 Quad CPUs that are powered with full 12MB of cache.
The Core 2 Quad Q9450 works at 2.66GHz, has 12MB memory and works with FSB1333MHz. It is packed in socket LGA775 and it will sell for $319. I guess that this one will be very popular as it has the whole 12MB cache and it costs only $49 more than $270 Q9300.
The fastest Core 2 Quad is Q9550 clocked at 2.83GHz with total 12MB of cache, FSB 1333 and LGA775 support. This one will sell for $527 and it will take the place of Q6700 that served for so much time.“
Increased cache in yesteryears sometimes made a difference, but those were small increases of 1MB or 2MB. With an additional 6MB for a total of 12MB you’d expect a pretty significant performance boost in cache senstitive applications. Of course this remains to be seen, but I would personally plop down another 50 for double cache if it made sense. By the way, Go Bears!
