We have received word from an industry insider that NVIDIA’s flagship graphics card will be pushed back to March.

We reported a few days ago that rumors were circulating about a delay in the production and launch of several upcoming NVIDIA products. Today we can verify that these rumors are correct, to some extent. A trusted source has confirmed that the GeForce 9800GX2 is now set for launch in the first week of March, instead of mid-February as previously speculated. The reason given for this delay was that NVIDIA wanted to have the 9800GX2 launch at the same time as their nForce 790i chipset to deliver a 1-2 punch to any kind of AMD momentum.

In addition, the source gave a solid date for the launch of the GeForce 9600GT, February 21st. The 9600GT features an impressive spec sheet for a mid-range card. Early benchmarks have shown the card beating the pants off the former high-end GeForce 8800GTS 640MB, which is pretty amazing considering the 9600GT should retail for somewhere between $150 and $200 USD.

The final product we were concerned about was the GeForce 9800GTX and whether or not this “delay” in launch date would affect its release as well. It would appear NVIDIA has no plans to launch the 9800GTX in the near future, as the source stated the card would be released “much later”.

Hopefully we can provide more detailed information as it rolls in.
