Intel contiunes to gobble up video and graphics related firms after Havok.
Via X-bit Labs: “Intel Corp. has quietly acquired graphics software company called Neoptica. The decision once again outlines importance that graphics technologies represent for the world’s largest maker of x86 central processing units (CPUs). Unfortunately, it is unclear what will the company’s do as a part of Intel.
“Neoptica has been acquired by Intel, where we are working on a number of exciting efforts in interactive computer graphics,” a short statement from Neoptica’s web-site reads.
Previously, Neoptica developed software tools for development of advanced “interactive graphics”. Based in San Francisco, California, the company was founded by ex-Nvidia and ex-Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. employees who used to work on software development positions. Besides, some of Neoptica’s employees were involved into GPGPU (general purpose computing on graphics processing units) projects.“
Oh ladies and gentlemen, the writing is clearly on the walls and if you’ve had no idea that Intel is extremely interested in debuting its own discrete high performance video cards then you have no idea. Purchasing Havok effectively put back GPU physics till DirectX 11 and with Intel continuing to acquirre specialized technology and human capital with the knowhow and the drive to compete against NVIDIA and ATI, then you’re looking at three way GPU wars in the years to come. Remember Intel Inside? Well imagine if that changes to Intel ALL Inside? You get the picture…
