Activision’s Call of Duty series is a perennial favorite amongst FPSLabs readers. This is likely because the game incorporates a far more realistic first person shooter experience than Valve juggernauts Counter-Strike and Team Fortress 2. While COD4 might not be the most played game amongst our readers, it was highly heralded when it launched, and our review of the game spoke highly of it.
Now, Activision has announced that Call of Duty 5 is forthcoming. Thankfully the new game will not revert to the World War II roots of the series, and instead will probably keep the same sort of gameplay/era as COD4 in a different geographic location.
The game will be available on PC, Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Playstation 2, Nintendo Wii, and Nintendo DS. We are interested to see what kind of hardware this game will require considering it will be launched on so many platforms with vastly different computing capabilities (obviously the Nintendo DS version will be completely separate).
The PC version will likely incorporate DirectX 10 features to bring the game up to scruff with other titles that will be launching around the same time, including Far Cry 2.
There is no concrete launch date, but Fudzilla expects the game to be released sometime during fiscal year 2009 (sometime before March 31st, 2009).
