Hopefully we have come across pretty well as a bunch of cheap bastards in every article we’ve ever written. Although performance is always something we herald pretty highly, price is probably the most important factor in the majority of our reviews. If there is a product second on the food chain that offers similar performance to the flagship for significantly less money, chances are good that it will be our top choice when recommending components. That’s why it is always nice to hear about “hot deals” where you can catch a bargain on the latest tech.
Apparently today (unless this happened before and we didn’t know about it) AMD has launched a “Weekly Deal” page on Newegg. The current deal is a PALiT Radeon HD3870 video card for $90 after mail-in-rebate. This is a pretty good deal, considering the PALiT Radeon HD3850 is the same price. While last week a lot of people might have been buying a GeForce 9500GT in the sub-$100-or-near-it range, the HD3870 has suddenly become a new entrant into this price point.
Hopefully we get some pretty sick deals on the newer HD4800 series graphics cards. Seeing a high-end Phenom X4 going for prices more competitive with how they stack up to Intel quad-cores would also be nice. One thing’s for sure: we’re definitely going to be checking this Weekly Deal out each week to make sure we aren’t missing something.
