Jason was on site at CES gathering various news and rumblings within the hardware industry. Read on to catch up.

Well CES is now a wrap and after a whirlwind of running around trying to do this and that, go here and there I can finally relax. While I was there with FPSLabs in heart, I was sent out by Gameriot to cover the event. Hence some of my content is over there too. So check out Stu and I’s CES coverage blog over at Gameriot.

However fear not fellow believers, I do have plenty of news for you guys so follow along and see what goodies Santa CES has brought us.

Arctic Freezer

Arctic Freezer who makes of one of our most recommended coolers, the Arctic Freezer Pro 7, is ready to push towards the high end market with their new Freezer Extreme. This thing is massive with 226 fins and 8 heat pipes. It also features the push pin installation that I have come to love from the AF7 which makes motherboard removal not necessary when removing the cooler.

CoolerMaster

CoolerMaster is bringing out the V10 cooler. This thing looks like a dust buster. It is meant as not only a CPU cooler (why can I not say that without giggling about the chewontech guy), but as a RAM cooler also. The only problem I see off the bat is high profile ram with fins, like the Reaper or Dominator may not clear the RAM part of the cooler.

OCZ

While not on the show floor we did see plenty of goodies from the folks at OCZ. First to catch our eye was their new solid state drives. Coming in at sizes of 32GB and 64GB and a whole lot of cash these drives were pretty sharp. They have no moving parts and should have great performance. The problem? SSD still is not ready for the common desktop market where the 32GB is going to fetch around $400 (ouch).

Also on the way from OCZ is a new water CPU cooler named the Hydrojet. The final version was on display as we have seen various prototypes floating around. This version features a self contained water pump with a closed water flow system. Also it features not just copper at the base but carbon nano tubes.

Hypersonic

Hypersonic is releasing a new line of gaming laptops and desktops for the mainstream audience. Customizations abroad and some unique chasis should give these some potential. Look for a possible review coming from us down the road of the laptop series.

Lian-Li

In some news that I was looking forward to; it seems Lian-Li will finally be making some upgrades to two of their most popular cases. The PC-V2100 series will see an upgrade and new features as it gets a successor in the PC-V2110. I have held off picking up one of these for myself in expectation of a refresh so it is nice to see this finally on the horizon. Also on the way in this the new PC-V1010; the follow up to the very successful PC-V1000. Look for both of these as early as midyear.

{mospagebreak title=Zalman, PC Power}

PC Power and Cooling

Now under the OCZ brand but still kicking out the same quality they have been known for. It seems PC Power and Cooling will be providing the engineering and insides of some new OCZ power supplies. Is this the best of both worlds? Quite possibly. PC Power may never go modular but you might be able to get PC power quality with an OCZ label and modular features eventually here.

Zalman FPS Gun

This was quite the interesting product. Check over at Gameriot for more details on this.

Overall my first time at CES was a lot of work. There was tons of running around, trying to catch news here and there, various PR events, lots of waiting around. Also featuring too many damn cab rides, long lines everywhere, and prices of food, drinks, and amenities that would even Bill Gates cringe. There is a lot of excess, but there is a lot of cool stuff when you do some digging. However if I see any more damn cell phone/mp3 cases or digital picture frames anytime soon I may pull out the rest of my hair. Also you guys can’t miss my favorite slogan of the event. Over all it was a great experience, met some really cool people in the industry, saw some sweet products, and now my feet need a week’s worth of rest. Thanks for checking out our coverage!
